About Martin Turnbull

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

I have taught for over 30 years in schools and now privately. I taught in state schools for 7 years, teaching music and composition in both primary and secondary schools up to A level.
I am a qualified musician (BMus) teacher (PGCE) and Organist (ARCO), and have taken ABRSM exams in many instruments: Piano VIII (Distinction, 139/150); Organ VIII (Distinction, 139/150); Double Bass VIII (Merit 128/150); Singing VI (Merit 128/150); General Musicianship V (Distinction 131/150); Theory VI (99/99); Flute III.
In my teenage years I played Organ recitals in England and Holland, including Rotterdam Cathedral.
I have played in the following bands: “Metaphor” free improvisation, eclectic; “The Sounding” Jazz/Rock playing mainly my own songs; a party band; and “Half Cut” (a duo with another member from a barbershop quartet I was in, thus the name!) singing and playing songs from the 20’s to 60’s.  I now play in a duo Jarman’s Rocks, playing songs from the 50’s to the 00’s.
I have done solo original work using an integrated jazz-rock-classical style, and very much enjoy playing in Residential Homes playing a mixture of Classical and Jazz Piano and 20th century songs.
I have trained choirs for many years, and I have been a church organist and band director. I now continue to play in churches running the band and singing group, and other public venues.
My main focus of performing is now on the streets, sometimes singing with Piano, sometimes doing music theatre with my original backing tracks.
